Muscle strain

Even Dogs Can Overdo the Exercise

MetPet.com Staff Writer

Dogs can be weekend athletes just like all of us hard working types.  If you've spent Sunday playing Frisbee or swimming up a creek without a paddle, maybe you're not the only one feeling sore. If your dog is moving slowly due to muscle soreness, he can benefit from a cool ice pack.  Apply a pack to the muscle for 5-10 minutes every few hours.

You can make your own ice pack by placing several ice cubes and a teacup of water into a plastic bag.  The water will make the pack soft and easier to use.  Knot or seal the bag tightly, then wrap it in a kitchen towel.  Place the pack into the freezer but let it melt a bit before using it again.

Another simple ice pack is to use a bag of frozen peas or corn.  They're smaller, rounder and more comfortable than ice cubes.  We've tried a Tuscan vegetable medley but the broccoli was a little lumpy.
