Osteotomy in DogsDogs that suffer from canine hip dysplasia (CHD) can sometimes be treated as puppies, between 6 to 12 months old, before the bones have fully developed. This is a major surgical procedure performed by a specialist, a veterinary orthopedic surgeon. The bones of the affected area: pelvic, hip, leg are cut and repositioned to create a more normal joint. This is an uncommon and serious procedure. Puppies have to be diagnosed by x-rays early enough for this corrective surgery to be effective.
