Praising Your Dog
All The Time
MetPet.com Staff Writer
This is one of our favorite dog training
tips. Whenever you pass by your dog and he's not chewing on your shoes or peeing on
your couch, try praising him. Tell him that he's a good boy when he's just sitting
quietly in the car. Be enthusiastic with praise when he poops in the park.
Dogs, like people, will sometimes misbehave
just to get attention. They will settle for any attention rather than none. If
you only notice him when he's eating your carpet, he's much more likely to continue eating
your carpet. Conversely, if you praise him while he's lying quietly on his bed,
he'll be much more likely to lie quietly in the future.
If he gets noticed on a regular basis, he
won't have to go to extremes. Every good contact with your dog will help make him
calmer, happier and better behaved.
