The animals, exhibiting the characteristics humans ascribe to them, began by quarreling, arguing and jockeying for position. At the banks of the river, the small, intelligent and rather sneaky Rat hopped a ride on the back of the Ox. On the opposite bank, the Rat jumped off and finished first. Apparently the Tiger also tried to hitch a ride on the Ox's back but was pushed off by said Rat. Year and years later cats are still trying to get back at the original Rat by chasing all rats.
