---"I want to add my praise for WiggleLegs Frog toy.  My cat loves to play with WiggleLegs No other toy will do.  When I ask her to find WiggleLegs she goes right to it!  I just ordered 3 more as I'm afraid you will stop making them and then I don't know what we will do!"

The Animals of the Chinese Zodiac

The 12-animal, 12-year cycle of the Chinese Astrological Calendar

MetPet.com Staff Writer

As legend has it, one day, some time long ago the animals began to quarrel as to who would hold the first position in the 12-year cycle of the calendar.  Hearing their quarrel, the Jade Emperor, the Master of Heaven, decreed that all the animals should race across the river.  The positions they would occupy would be decided by the order of their finish.

The animals, exhibiting the characteristics humans ascribe to them, began by quarreling, arguing and jockeying for position.  At the banks of the river, the small, intelligent and rather sneaky Rat hopped a ride on the back of the Ox.  On the opposite bank, the Rat jumped off and finished first.

Apparently the Tiger also tried to hitch a ride on the Ox's back but was pushed off by said Rat.  Year and years later cats are still trying to get back at the original Rat by chasing all rats.

The final order was as follows:

Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

People who are born 12, 24, 36, 48, etc. years apart share the same animal sign and, therefore, the same personal characteristics.  Knowing a person's animal sign is also a way to figure out their age.
